All applications regarding post-graduate programs provided by our University for 2017-2018 Academic Year will follow the guidlines below.

In order for the application and registration procedures to be carried out without error and speed, you must carefully examine the published guidelines and complete the requirements.

I. ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Application procedures for general and foreign quotas of the institutions listed below which are quoted in fall semester of 2017-2018 academic year will be made online via the internet without interruption within the application deadlines.

III. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

FOREIGN QUOTA: Turkish and foreign candidates may apply.

A) Graduation Requirements:

  • Candidates must have at least one bachelor’s degree or be in the last semester of their studies in order to apply for a Master’s program.
  • To apply for a Ph.D. program, graduates must have a Master’s degree (with thesis) or bachelor’s and master’s degrees, or must be in the last semester of their studies.

  • Candidates who will apply to Master’s Programs (with thesis) must have at least 65 out of 100 GPA (CGPA).

  • Candidates who will apply to the Ph.D. Program must have at least 65 out of 100 (AGNO / CGPA) from their bachelor’s degree (at least 75 out of 100 (AGNO / CGPA) if accepted without a master’s degree) and at least 75 out of 100 (AGNO / CGPA) in their master’s degree of the graduate grade averages.

B) Foreign Language Requirement: Foreign language is not required for candidates applying for this quota.

C) Lateral Transfers: Students who have completed at least one semester in a equivalent post-graduate program provided by another institute, and who successfully complete all courses they have taken may apply to the transfer quota. Transfers are not allowed during the last semester of Master’s programs (with or without thesis) and in the last two semesters of doctorate programs.

D) Other Requirements: The provisions of the Istanbul University Graduate Education and Training Regulations shall apply to the matters not mentioned in this Guide.


IV. EVALUATION CRITERIA

Master’s program admissions are evatuated using 100% of the bachelor’s grade avarage.

Doctorate program admissions are evaluated using 50% of the bachelor’s grade avarage and 50% of the master’s grade avarage.

Those accepted without a master’s degree are evaluated by 100% of their bachelor’s degree.

Candidates are ranked according to their graduation notes, starting with the highest grade, and accepted into the programs within the quota. Candidates who have an equal graduation score, the priority is given to the one with a more recent graduation date and candidates whose application date is earlier are preferred in case of continuation of equality.

VI. ADMISSION PROCESS and REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Applications for General and Foreign Quota will be made online only and information filled in on-line application will be accepted as a candidate’s declaration.
  • Applicants must have their graduation “transcripts” (printed and approved) indicating the average of bachelor’s / master’s grades declared by the applicants during the interview at the time of application during the interview and during the final registration. Non-graduate students must have transcripts showing the latest (7th semester for 4-year programs and 9th semester for 5-year programs) grade avarage they have entered the system during their online application during the interview and during the final registration.  
  • Online applications are not available for lateral transfers. Applications will be accepted directly by the Institute Administration.

    Documents required for transfer applications:

    a) The approved copy of up-to-date educational status document indicating the stage in which the applicants are, given by the Institute they are enrolled in.

    b) Approved copy of grade certificate (transcript)

    c) Print of online result certificate of ALES or equivalent exam

    d) Print of online result certificate of YDS or equivalent exam

The information requested during the online application process will be the candidate’s declaration and can not be changed after the information is recorded.

NOTE: Those who are found to declare false or wrong information and those whose documents are flawed or falsified can not complete their final registration, even if their final registration has been completed, their registration will  be canceled.

NOTE: 2017-2018 applications must be made in accordance with the special conditions mentioned in the quota tables. Candidates who do not apply in accordance with special conditions will not be allowed to participate in the interview and their applications will be canceled.


VII. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED for FINAL REGISTRATION

Candidates who are entitled to complete registration must submit the following documents to the relevant Institute Administration in person during the announced period:

1. Bachelor’s diploma or graduation certificate for enrolling in master’s programs, master’s degree diploma or graduation certificate approved by notary or related graduate school/institution of higher education for applying to doctoral programs. (1 copy)

Candidates who have graduated from foreign institutions of higher education must submit their diploma or graduation certificates along with it’s Turkish translation. (1 copy)

Foreign citizens who have graduated from foreign higher education institutions and Turkish citizens who are in the same situation and who are registered in accordance with other conditions other than the equivalency certificate are eligible for education if whether or not their institute and their bachelor’s or master’s educations have been recognized before the Higher Education Council (YÖK). (Those who have graduated from one of the Medical, Pharmacy or Dentistry Faculties in foreign countries must have obtained the equivalency document to be issued by YÖK and must be presented at the time of application.)

2. Transcripts showing the achievement grades of all the courses taken during bachelor’s and master’s studies and graduation grade averages certified by a notary approved or related higher education institution. (1 copy)

Candidates graduating from higher education institutions abroad are obliged to submit their transcripts with their translations in Turkish and the grade average. (1 copy)

3. The original or notarized copy of the ALES document’s internet printout or equivalence test result document.

4. The original or notarized copy of the YDS document’s internet printout or equivalence test result document.

5. 6 passport size photographs (4.5×6 cm) taken in the last six months, front-facing, so candidate is easily recognizable.

6. Approved document indicating their residing abroad from Turkish citizen applicants who apply for general quotas of the programs, who have completed their bachelor’s or master’s  education abroad. (1 copy)

7. A photocopy of the identity card (a photocopy of the residence permit for foreign citizens and a document showing the Foreign Citizens Number.)

8. Notarized Turkish translation of the pages showing the passport with student visa’s identity and validity period for foreign citizens (CLICK FOR FOREIGN STUDENT INFORMATION FORM) (Those who certify that they have a valid residence permit will not be required to register for the Study Visa.)

9. Declaration of residence (CLICK for Residence Form)

10. Original copy of up-to-date Military Status Document of male candidates to be taken from the military branches (not required for foreign citizens).

11. “Turkish Proficiency” certificate or approved certificate indicating that foreign candidates know Turkish.

12. Bank receipt for student contribution / tuition fee. (Payments are made to the Halk Bank by taking the reference number from the Student Automation System) The related bank and wage information must be found from the related institute.) (Foreign candidates and Turkish candidates who reside abroad and will apply for foreign quota must pay tuition fees.)


VIII. ATTENTION CANDIDATES

Application via postal services will not be accepted. Applications will be made “online”.

The validity period of the submitted foreign language examinations is 5 years.

Online application can not be changed after the information entered in the system is recorded.

Applicants may only apply to one of the master’s and doctoral programs with thesis. However, if desired, a master’s degree without thesis can be additionally applied to.

With the exception of graduate programs without thesis, more than one graduate program can not be registered and can not be continued.

2017-2018 applications must be made in accordance with the special conditions mentioned in the quota tables. Candidates who do not apply in accordance with special conditions will not be allowed to participate in the interview and their applications will be canceled.

If the student’s transcript or diploma does not have a GPA according to the system of 100, the applicants to the Master’s program will be based on the Istanbul University’s graduation grade conversion table and those applying to the doctoral program will be based on the Istanbul University’s master’s grade conversion table.

Foreign citizens who will be applying for a Master’s degree or Ph.D. degree are not required to apply for equivalence except in the fields of medical medicine and dentistry. Applicants from Turkish Republic (citizens) who are to apply for Master’s or Ph.D. degree must have diploma equivalency application. CLICK HERE for more details about recognition.

Those who are found to declare false or wrong information and those whose documents are flawed or falsified can not complete their final registration, even if their final registration has been completed, their registration will  be canceled.
