In-house training programs are provided by the Institute of Forensic Sciences, Istanbul University for the  staff members assigned in forensic science and forensic medicine institutions and organizations in order to develop their qualifications. 1. Forensic Biology and Forensic Genetics (Hands-on Training)


Participants who complete this course will have a more thorough understanding of the basic through advanced concepts in the fields of forensic biology and forensic genetics, accepted terminology, crime scene investigation and sampling, transfer and storage of biological evidence, test methods used inthe field forensic genetics, mixed DNA analysis, basic statistics for forensic genetics, evaluation of forensic genetic reports, legal legislations used in paternity suits and other forensic genetics related cases, legal and ethical aspects of molecular genetic investigations, methods and instructions used in disaster victim identification, Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and DNA data banks, new generation sequencing and Mt-DNA identification.

Target audience: The targeted audience for this course is the forensic specialists and experts working mainly in the field of forensic biology and forensic genetics who have a bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, medical biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, nursing, medicine or the forensic medicine experts and the graduates of the faculty of law.

2. Forensic Toxicology (Hands-on Training)


Participants who complete this course will have a more thorough understanding of the basic through advanced concepts in the field of forensic toxicology, poisons and poisonings, psychotropic substances, applications in the fields of postmortem and antemortem toxicology, biological and physical evidence types, evidence collection, sample preparation, preservation, storage and analysis, expert practices in the field of forensic toxicology, inorganic toxicology, psychoactive substance abuse and alcohol use in terms of forensic medicine (forensic expertise) and related legislation, quality assurance in toxicology laboratories.

Target audience: The targeted audience for this course is the forensic specialists and experts working mainly in the field of forensic toxicology who have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, medical biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, pharmacy, medicine or employees of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Research, Treatment and Education Centers and Child Substance Abuse Treatment Centers, Emergency Pharmacology, Psychiatry and Forensic Medicine Polyclinics, Criminal Laboratories.

3. Forensic Psychiatry and Narcotics


Participants who attend this course will learn the fundamental concepts of forensic psychiatry, civil and criminal laws, responsibilities of psychiatrists, interviewing and reporting for forensic cases. They will get expertise in managing addicted patients and screening methods.Different diagnostic groups such as psychotic patients ,patient with mood disorders, epileptics and arsonists ,intellectual disabilities, personality disorders and sexual offenders will be overviewed. The structure and organization of forensic psychiatry services will be studied in detail. Mental health care in prisons will be overviewed.

Target audience: The targeted audience for this course will be any person who works in the field of forensic psychiatry and addiction such as psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists, pharmacologists, nurses and any other law enforcement workers.

4. Autopsy and Forensic Histopathology


Forensic Pathology is a medical discipline deals with death due to suspect reasons. Autopsy and histopathologic examination of organs are the main instruments of a forensic pathologist. Both autopsy and forensic histopathology are required to have a qualified training in a synchronized manner but in some countries of the world, microscopic examination could be performed by anatomic pathologists even with little experiences in forensic area and further, histopathologic reports of these anatomic pathologists might be commented and used by forensic physicians with little experience in histopathology. This course was planned to give the principals of a forensic pathologic examination as well as reviewing of autopsy process.

Target audience: Forensic physicians with little or no experiences in forensic histopathology while have a basic knowledge of autopsy, at least.

5. Clinical Forensic Medicine


Forensic Medicine consists of two main branches; at least: Clinical Forensic Medicine and Postmortem Pathology (namely, Forensic Pathology). First one deals with evaluation of injuries, health, growth and evidences on body of living persons, in forensic context whereas postmortem pathology investigate the body of deceased to find the cause, time and manner of death in suspect events which resulted with death. This aim of this course is to give principals in clinical forensic medicine. Course content includes many major topics in clinical forensic medicine and issues are given below.

Target audience: Medical doctors with little or no experiences in forensic pathology and medicine are the target groups.
