PhD in Forensic Sciences

The PhD degree in Forensic Science, just like the Master’s Degree, is a research-oriented, thesis-required graduate degree program. Students must complete a minimum of 24 hours (30+30 ECTS) of graduate level work including required core courses, electives and thesis research in their major area.

This program is suitable for people with a variety of backgrounds. There are 3 divisions in our Institute Graduate Programs that students may apply to depending on their undergraduate degree.

The Division of Life Sciences accept students who are interested in the field of Forensic DNA, Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Genetics, Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Physics, Forensic Biochemistry, Forensic Microbiology and such. Some examples of appropriate undergraduate majors include agricultural & environmental sciences, biochemistry, biological sciences, biology, biotechnology, chemical engineering, chemistry, entomology, environmental toxicology, fiber & polymer science, forensic science, genetic engineering, genetics, microbiology, molecular & cell biology, molecular genetics, or physics. Click here for details.

The Division of Socials Sciences gather students who are focused mainly on Forensic Psychology, Criminalistics, Law & Order, Forensic Anthropology, Sociology, Crime and Justice and such. Some examples of appropriate undergraduate majors include Psychology, Law, Police Academy, Anthropology or Sociology. Click here for details.

The Division of Medical Sciences gather students who are focused mainly on Forensic Medicine, Forensic Pathology, Forensic Neurobiology, Forensic Odontology and such. Some examples of appropriate undergraduate majors include Medicine, Nursing or Dentistry. Click here for details.

Requirements for international students’ admission include an undergraduate degree in the sciences, engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution with a high GPA. Please click here for details.

Practically all of the courses you attend at the Forensic Science Institute of Istanbul University will be held in “Turkish”.
