UNGASS: Drug Substances and Crime

UNGASS (The United Nations General Assembly’s Special Session) REGIONAL CONSULTATIONS MEETING, A SPECIAL SESSION WAS HELD TITLED “DRUGS AND CRIME” AND MODERATED BY PROF.DR.FARUK AŞICIOĞLU.

The UN General Assembly will hold a Special Session (UNGASS) focusing on drugs in April 2016 in New York based on “Political Declaration and Plan of Action on International Cooperation towards an Integrated and Balanced Strategy to Counter the World  Drug Problem”. Civil initiative remarks carry great importance in terms of discussions that will be held and conclusions that will be yielded in and from this meeting. Thus, led by New York and Vienna NGO Committees on Drugs, Civil Society Task Force has been formed.
2 (8)During the preparation to UNGASS phase, view and remarks of civil society including NGOs, academia and the scientific community carry great importance. In line with this target, Turkish Green Crescent Society who undertook the coordination of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East, have held the UNGASS regional meeting on November 26-27, 2016 with the participation of 35 representatives from 20 countries.
DSC_0057Five major topics, the topics being drug substances and public health; drug substances and crime; drug substance and human, youth, women rights; new campaign fields and  recent developments  have been discussed in this matter and meeting outcomes have been finalized and reported to the United Nations. Among five major topics mentioned “Drug Substances and Crime” session moderated by our Institute Director Prof.Dr. Faruk Aşıcıoğlu, with participants from Sweden, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Iran, Georgia and Turkey has been held.
